Here’s what actually changed between the three generations.
At a glance
- EliteBook 845 G7 (2020): AMD Ryzen 4000 PRO series processors. A big step up in multi-core performance over older business laptops.
- EliteBook 845 G8 (2021): AMD Ryzen 5000 PRO series. Faster single-core performance and better efficiency in the same familiar design.
- EliteBook 845 G9 (2022): AMD Ryzen 6000 PRO series, a taller 16:10 display, DDR5 memory, and much stronger built-in graphics.
EliteBook 845 G7
The G7 brought 6- and 8-core Ryzen PRO processors to a slim 14-inch business laptop. For everyday office work, browsing, video calls, and multitasking, it still feels quick today.
It’s the best-value option of the three. If your work is mostly documents, email, spreadsheets, and the browser, a G7 with 16GB of RAM and an SSD is more than enough.
EliteBook 845 G8
The G8 keeps a very similar design but moves to Ryzen 5000 PRO processors (such as the Ryzen 5 PRO 5650U and Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U). The improvement you notice most is responsiveness: apps open faster and heavier tasks finish sooner.
The G8 is the sweet spot for most buyers. It costs a bit more than a G7, but it gives you extra headroom for the years ahead.
EliteBook 845 G9
The G9 is the biggest change of the three. It moves to a 14-inch 16:10 display, which gives you more vertical space for documents and web pages. It also uses DDR5 memory and Ryzen 6000 PRO processors with much stronger integrated Radeon graphics.
If you do light photo editing, work with large spreadsheets, use several external displays, or simply want the newest platform, the G9 is the one to look for.
Which one should you buy?
- Choose the G7 if you want a reliable business laptop at the lowest price and your work is mainly office and browser-based.
- Choose the G8 if you want the best balance between price and performance.
- Choose the G9 if you want the taller screen, stronger graphics, and the most modern platform.
Whichever generation you choose, pay attention to RAM and storage. 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD will make a bigger difference to your day-to-day experience than the jump from one generation to the next.
